NEW COVER FOR TIGER TROUBLE!!!(!!!)

Hey there!

I'm back with some very, very cool news! Tiger Trouble recently turned 2 years old and to celebrate,  there is an ALL-NEW cover that I can't stop looking at. Seriously, see for yourself:

OH MAN! HOW AWESOME DOES THAT LOOK?????

This cover was created by Baltimore artist Tristan George and I cannot thank him enough for making this vision into a mind-blowing reality.

You can pick up a copy via this Amazon link.

In other exciting news, I wrapped up the first draft of book 3, Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Mecha-Mole Mayhem! That means I now have all kinds of editing and revising ahead of me. It's the part where I take a really, really flawed draft and start smoothing out all of the issues. Thankfully, I'm a teacher and I have my summer vacation coming up. Time to get to work!

WRITING NEWS:

On Wednesday, I did a book reading at Petworth Citizen, as part of 826dc’s Lowercase series. 826dc is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching creativity to DC students through their after-school programs. Once a month, they invite local authors (and authors passing through the city) to take part in their read-aloud night.

I chose the chapter where Ninja Steve’s class is training with Sensei Raheem in the Field of Tall Purple Grass. There was a lot of laughter from the audience, which means that they were all super-intelligent people, on top of being super good-looking, too!

Here are a few winning shots that my friends took:

I’ve also been writing the initial draft of Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in…Mecha-Mole Mayhem! As with any first draft, it’s a really, really ugly process. Lots of rough work, lots of wrong words, and lots of plot knots to work out.

TODAY’S WORKOUT:

10x squat with a leg lift (alternate the leg that you lift when you rise up from the squat)

10x push-ups

10x burpees

20x mountain climbers

Repeat this series 3 to 5 times, depending on how much you want to work your muscles.

#Saturday - New Review of Tiger Trouble!

Today I found out that Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Tiger Trouble! was recently reviewed by one of my favorite book review blogs, Unleashing Readers!!!! They have been one of my go-to blogs for new books to check out, so this was extra-cool to discover!

Unleashing Readers not only reviews books, but also provides guiding questions for teachers (or parents!) who want to spark conversations about the books they just read.

Kellee offered up some wonderful comments in her review. I especially loved this part (I'll let you guess why!):

This is a book like Alex Rider and Percy Jackson that kids are going to love to read. It will be great for a middle school read aloud

Click that quote to read the entire review.

#MondayBlogs - Robot Rumble Pre-Order, Push-Ups, & The Ataris

WRITING NEWS:

Warning: lots of exclamation points ahead.

The Kindle version of Robot Rumble will be out on Saturday! This will be your first chance to check out the latest novel in the Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve series. It has more spin-kicks, more sneakery, more mystery, and more President Ninja!

I also got the first test-print of the HARDCOVER VERSION OF ROBOT RUMBLE!!!!! The only way to get this version is to pre-order here on my site! Pre-orders for the first batch will end on May 1st, so don't delay!

It looks INCREDIBLE!

READING NEWS:

I've been reading The Sculptor by Scott McCloud. It's a graphic novel, more for a 16+ crowd (just to give fair warning) about a down-on-his-luck artist who makes a deal with Death: he'll be able to make beautiful sculptures for 200 days and then he will die. I'm only 50% through it and it's a heart-wrenching, gut-punching story about how artists struggle and suffer because trying to make it as an artist in this country is so incredibly difficult.

WORKOUT NEWS:

Repeat this circuit 3 times:
1 minute of push-ups
1 minute plank
1 minute mountain climbers
1 minute squats
1 minute cross-body punch w/ 8-10 pound weights (keep weights up like you're guarding your face. Twist body and feet to the right, slowly punch across your body with your left hand. Slowly twist and punch in the other direction)

#MondayBlogs: YouTube Channel, Instagram, New Review!

WRITING NEWS:

I've started recording videos of myself reading Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Tiger Trouble! I'm posting them on youtube, so check them out and go ahead and subscribe to my channel.

My students all know what it's like to hear me reading out loud, so this is nothing new to them. But maybe it's new for you! You can watch and listen to chapter 1, right here:

Also, there's a new review of Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Tiger Trouble! The Book Forums is run by Meagan, who had some amazing things to say about Tiger Trouble!

Here's one of my favorite lines:

"The humor is on point, the adventure is fun, and the world is silly but explained."

Thank you, Meagan, I'm thrilled that you had a fun time reading. (And something tells me that you'll be receiving a review copy of Robot Rumble! in the near future.)

READING NEWS:

I finished reading Philip Pullman's The Golden Compass (which I learned is actually titled Northern Lights in other markets). I put the book down and thought, "Iorek Byrnison is the greatest bear of all time." Follow me on GoodReads to see more books that I'm reading! (And maybe you'll find a title you didn't know about before!)

WORKOUT NEWS:

10 push-ups (diamond push-ups for an extra challenge if you want)
10 crunches
10 surrenders while holding an 8 lb weight in each hand

Repeat that cycle ten times. The constant motion of getting up on your feet, then lowering yourself to the ground means that you're going to sweat a lot.

MISC NEWS:

I (finally) created an instagram account! I'll be taking pictures of the books I'm reading, the places I'm visiting, and anything else I deem fun enough to post.

WRITING NEWS:

-Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Tiger Trouble! just got another fantastic review!

Macy <3 Stories wrote:

When I was little, I wanted to be a secret agent. And a ninja. I am not kidding. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw both agent and ninja in just one book title. I had a feeling this was going to be a fun-to-read book. And I was right.

READING NEWS:

I'm one of the few YA fantasy fans on Earth who hasn't read The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. I started it this week and I'm loving it. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get to it: my friend Bill told me about it when we were in middle school, and here I am at the age of 30...

WORKOUT NEWS:

Of all the workouts I did this week, the one I liked best was simply using the fitlb Tabata Timer in order to do 4 minute bursts of the following:
-Mountain Climbers
-Push-Ups
-Planks
-Frog Crunches
-Burpees

Another Awesome Review of Tiger Trouble!

Blogger Chris Pavesic just posted an excellent review of Tiger Trouble! I loved that Chris went in-depth with the characters and gave his readers a few sample passages from the book.

About Nora and Steve, Chris says,

"With Steve and Nora, Goodman has created a realistic pair of siblings. They know each other’s weaknesses, they know how to push each other’s buttons, but at the same time, they obviously care about each other"

And then Chris also has a great line about Darcy:

"She is not competing with the record of an older sibling at the school; she is competing with herself."

LOVE IT!

Check out the full review here. (HINT HINT: There will also be a new interview appearing soon!)

New Interview!

I did a really fun interview over on Today We Did.

I want to add that Sara was the VERY FIRST Australian to have a copy of Tiger Trouble! AND the very first blogger to interview me. It's an honor!

They started out by calling Tiger Trouble "an engaging, action packed spy and ninja book perfect for middle to upper primary school children." It only gets better from there!!

WorldBuilders Update!

Hey readers!

Some of you know that Patrick Rothfuss is one of my literary heroes. Some of you know that I wanted to support his amazing charity, WorldBuilders, by donating my profits from TIGER TROUBLE sales until December 14th, when WorldBuilders closes up its funding period.

What I didn't say was that I also sent along 20 autographed copies of TIGER TROUBLE to be added to the WorldBuilders lottery. It works like this: if you choose to donate and enter the lottery, every $10 gets you one entry. Up in the mix are super rare books and signed copies from superstar authors. There's one in particular signed by R.A. Salvatore, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson, Lev Grossman, Rothfuss himself, and about 15 others.

In other words, the lottery is FILLED with books from absolute titans of sci-fi and fantasy. So when I donated those copies of TIGER TROUBLE, I had no idea that one of the blog entries would contain THIS:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of my favorite writers on the planet said that something I've done makes me way cooler than Batman.

I just...um...wow. I'm still slightly in shock.

Life is amazing.

Blog! Writing! Blog Writing!

Hey everyone!

In addition to running November Notebook, I'm going to start posting my writing updates here on the site.

Everything has been quiet on this site since the release of AGENT DARCY AND NINJA STEVE IN...TIGER TROUBLE! back in May.

I'm still stunned by how many of you have picked up copies. It has been absolutely incredible. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

Summer's here, which means I now have a lot more free time to devote to writing. I can tell you that as of this morning, the next book in the series, AGENT DARCY AND NINJA STEVE IN...ROBOT RUMBLE! is coming along nicely.

I'm still firmly in first draft territory, which is a loooooooong way from a final draft. But...draft one is 30% complete.

In the meantime, I need to do some summer reading. What books would you recommend for me?
