robot rumble

August 6th Update!

Hello there!

The Robot Rumble paperback is up on Amazon and it looks so good!

I've been putting in all kinds of crazy hours for book three, Mecha-Mole Mayhem, and I'm about to send it out to my editor later this week. Still no solid release date here, so stay tuned for more information.

My summer goal was to write, write, write.

In the past, I've fallen way short of my goal, but not this year. For any day that I was home (and for a few days while I was on vacation), I was working on writing for at least 3 hours. It was an incredible challenge that proved refreshing: I showed myself that I could really push my creativity and along the way, I came up with several new projects to work on.

I've got a few days left before I head back to being a teacher, so I'm really making sure that my time goes to good use.

Thanks for checking in, talk to you soon.

Order of business #1: IT'S SUMMER BREAK!!!!!!!!! THE SCHOOL YEAR IS DONE!!!!!!

Order of business #2: I'm done with my first re-read of Mecha-Mole Mayhem and tomorrow I'll be starting the first round of edits. Lots of work to be done!

Order of business #3:

After his smash hit of a cover for Tiger Trouble, I asked Baltimore artist Tristan George to come aboard for the rest of the series. He has been a MACHINE and this Robot Rumble cover will be available via Amazon on July 15. Look at that design, people. It has leaping, electric jump kicks, and mysterious gears! WOW!

#MondayBlogs - Robot Rumble Pre-Order, Push-Ups, & The Ataris

Warning: lots of exclamation points ahead.

The Kindle version of Robot Rumble will be out on Saturday! This will be your first chance to check out the latest novel in the Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve series. It has more spin-kicks, more sneakery, more mystery, and more President Ninja!

I also got the first test-print of the HARDCOVER VERSION OF ROBOT RUMBLE!!!!! The only way to get this version is to pre-order here on my site! Pre-orders for the first batch will end on May 1st, so don't delay!

I've been reading The Sculptor by Scott McCloud. It's a graphic novel, more for a 16+ crowd (just to give fair warning) about a down-on-his-luck artist who makes a deal with Death: he'll be able to make beautiful sculptures for 200 days and then he will die. I'm only 50% through it and it's a heart-wrenching, gut-punching story about how artists struggle and suffer because trying to make it as an artist in this country is so incredibly difficult.

Repeat this circuit 3 times:
1 minute of push-ups
1 minute plank
1 minute mountain climbers
1 minute squats
1 minute cross-body punch w/ 8-10 pound weights (keep weights up like you're guarding your face. Twist body and feet to the right, slowly punch across your body with your left hand. Slowly twist and punch in the other direction)

-Book 2: Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in…Robot Rumble! will be released on Kindle April 30, 2016. The Kindle version is available for pre-ordering!!!

-Autographed Hardcover Editions of Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in…Robot Rumble! can be pre-ordered here. Your book will arrive the week of May 16th (or possibly earlier).

-Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in...Tiger Trouble! just got another fantastic review!

Macy <3 Stories wrote:

When I was little, I wanted to be a secret agent. And a ninja. I am not kidding. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw both agent and ninja in just one book title. I had a feeling this was going to be a fun-to-read book. And I was right.

-Agent Darcy and Ninja Steve in…Robot Rumble! will be released on April 30, 2016. The Kindle version is now available for pre-ordering!!! Paperback copies will be available for ordering on April 30th, 2016.

I'm one of the few YA fantasy fans on Earth who hasn't read The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. I started it this week and I'm loving it. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get to it: my friend Bill told me about it when we were in middle school, and here I am at the age of 30...

Of all the workouts I did this week, the one I liked best was simply using the fitlb Tabata Timer in order to do 4 minute bursts of the following:
-Mountain Climbers
-Frog Crunches

Robot Rumble: Progress Update

Big update, people.

As of today, the very first draft of AGENT DARCY AND NINJA STEVE IN...ROBOT RUMBLE is complete. If you want a sneak peek, click this link to add your email address to the NINJA NEWSLETTER.   I'll be sending out the first chapter on October 1st and that will be the only way to get it!

What's next, you ask?

It means that I now have a few rough weeks--okay, to be real, months--of editing and revision. A first draft is an ugly thing. The major elements are there, but there's all kinds of work to be done. Dots of the plot need to be connected, typos must be found and destroyed, character personalities need to be strengthened, dialogue needs to be cut down, a few loose ends need definitive conclusions. It's, honestly speaking, just as hard as creating the draft itself. I've been known to spend days working on revising a single chapter trying to make it perfect...only to realize that my first attempt was really what I needed all along.

Robot Rumble Update!

Hey readers! A very quick update here. I'm about 7000 words away from finishing the first draft of Robot Rumble! This book is filled with more mystery, more action, and more robots...and I still have about 50 pages left to go.  Wooooo!

July 20: Updates!

Hello internet!

July has been an incredibly busy month.

I made the decision to close down my YA blog, November Notebook, in order to bring all of my blog posting here, under one digital roof. I will still be posting articles and videos about the YA world, but they'll be appearing here now!

In terms of ROBOT RUMBLE news, I'm at the 40% mark of the first draft! Writing has been slow these past few weeks, but I'm picking up the pace again and it's time to really punch the keys.

July 1: GOAL MET!!!

Hey readers!

My goal was to have 10,000 words of ROBOT RUMBLE written by July 1st.

Here's a quick snippet of what's coming your way this winter:

A breeze blew in through the window, carrying with it the unmistakable scent of tempura. Steve lowered his ninja hood and smiled. “Nora! We completely forgot!”

            “What’s that?”

“Today is Fry Day!” Steve said.

“No, Steve, it’s Wednesday,” Nora said.

“FRY Day! The first round of The World Series of Tempura!” Steve said. “We have to get going so we don’t miss the first match!”

Steve and Nora arrived at the battlefield just in time. Hundreds of ninjas had gathered on the hillside that overlooked the sprawling green field. Some of them had brought folding chairs, others were sitting on black picnic blankets. Steve and Nora managed to squeeze into a spot that was only a few rows back from the competitors.

Both of the participants were standing in front of a small stove. Each stove had a large, silver pot full of frying oil and a metal spoon with holes in it, for scooping the food out of the hot oil. Any other tools were optional.

“Ninjas and other ninjas,” said the announcer, “welcome to the opening round of the 500th World Series of Tempura!”

            The ninjas all clapped silently.

Blog! Writing! Blog Writing!

Hey everyone!

In addition to running November Notebook, I'm going to start posting my writing updates here on the site.

Everything has been quiet on this site since the release of AGENT DARCY AND NINJA STEVE IN...TIGER TROUBLE! back in May.

I'm still stunned by how many of you have picked up copies. It has been absolutely incredible. Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!

Summer's here, which means I now have a lot more free time to devote to writing. I can tell you that as of this morning, the next book in the series, AGENT DARCY AND NINJA STEVE IN...ROBOT RUMBLE! is coming along nicely.

I'm still firmly in first draft territory, which is a loooooooong way from a final draft. But...draft one is 30% complete.

In the meantime, I need to do some summer reading. What books would you recommend for me?
